basic, great chocolate chip cookies

from tara o’brady

these cookies are super similar to the ones i made recently by butter and brioche. i was drawn to both because they were simple recipes that didn’t require any chilling or butter softening. they are both excellent, these come out a bit larger. between the two i slightly liked the butter and brioche ones better, they just had a bit more je ne sais quoi (maybe it was the espresso powder? or the more practical smaller size). they are on the thinnish side, slightly chewy and soft in the middle, crispy on the edges, and definitely not cakey. these look in my mind like the platonic ideal of a chocolate chip cookie, and i doubt anyone would be mad if you made them.
